Blancpain’s new black ceramic Bathyscaphe models

Recently, Blancpain launched a few new Bathyscaphe models in ceramic, including a brand new patented ceramic bracelet. My fellow journalists and I were invited to discover the new watches and experience great food at the new fine dining restaurant KOMU in Munich. All details, along with many photos, are below.

The main focus of this launch was the introduction of black ceramic to several existing watch models, as well as the debut of the brand-new patented ceramic bracelet. The most notable novelty was the black ceramic version of the Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune, which was previously available only in titanium. The new black ceramic Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune features three dial options: vibrant shades of sunray-brushed blue, green, or black. It is offered with a choice of bracelets or straps, ranging from ceramic to NATO and sailcloth.

The Blancpain Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune comes in a case with a diameter of 43.6 mm, a thickness of 14.1 mm, and a lug width of 23 mm. It has a water resistance of 30 bar. The watch is powered by the automatic calibre 6654.P, which has a power reserve of 72 hours, thanks to its two barrels. It features a silicon balance spring and a secure movement that allows the wearer to adjust the calendar indications at any time of day without causing damage.

The price of the Blancpain Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune on the ceramic bracelet is €27,900, while on the strap it’s €19,750 (including VAT).

A new black ceramic bracelet

Blancpain introduced a high-tech ceramic bracelet for the first time, and I can admit they did a great job. The bracelet feels durable, well-finished, and most importantly, very comfortable on the wrist. When it comes to finishing, ceramic is very complex to work with, as it’s nearly five times harder than stainless steel. To achieve the finishing, like satin-brushing, special diamond tools and skilled experts are required.

The exacting process of making a fine watchmaking bracelet means that the links have to be perfectly adjusted so that they are neither too loose – for aesthetic reasons – nor too tight – for practical reasons – resulting in tight tolerances. Each of the links is therefore carefully measured and checked to ensure a perfect fit. The bracelet’s patented system of links held together by cam-shaped pins makes it remarkably resistant and extremely comfortable.

Besides the Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet Phases de Lune, Blancpain has also added the new ceramic bracelet to the Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback watch, which you already know well. This version comes at a price of €27,900 (including VAT).

For those who prefer simpler watches but still want to enjoy the new bracelet, there is also the Bathyscaphe Automatic with a black ceramic case, black dial, and black ceramic bracelet. It offers a real stealthy look and is priced at €22,900 (including VAT).

The choice of KOMU, a relatively new two Michelin star restaurant in Munich, for the presentation is fitting. Blancpain has a longstanding connection with fine cuisine, regularly reviewing the world’s best restaurants in its corporate magazine “Lettres du Brassus.” The brand also plays the role of official timekeeper at renowned culinary contests and, in 2020, partnered with the Michelin Guide for three years.

KOMU is a contemporary fine dining restaurant in Munich that has been gaining attention for its unique culinary approach and exceptional dining experience. The restaurant boasts a stylish and sophisticated interior, designed to create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. KOMU is led by a renowned Munich chef Christoph Kunz, who adds a personal touch by casually visiting tables for a chat, enhancing the friendly and welcoming ambiance.
