Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577 – tourbillon for every day.

Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577

If you’ve ever dreamt of a highly complicated watch to be your daily beater, one that you even can confidently take to the pool, Breguet is here for you with their latest creation, the Marine Tourbillon 5577.

Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577

Just before the Christmas break in 2023, Breguet invited me and fellow journalists to an elegant suite at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Munich to showcase their newest watches. Among the impressive lineup, one that especially caught my eye was the Marine Tourbillon 5577 in 18K rose gold.

The Marine collection represents a more robust and sportier line of Breguet watches, designed to suit a more active lifestyle, while maintaining the brand’s signature elegant and classic aesthetic for which Breguet watches are renowned. This time, the brand introduced the signature Breguet complication to the collection – a tourbillon, housed in an ultra-thin case. It turned out very sleek and attractive.

Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577

The Marine Tourbillon 5577 is presented in two versions: 18K rose gold with a slate-grey dial and platinum with a navy blue dial. With a case diameter of 42.5 mm and a thickness of 9.35 mm – remarkably slender for such a complicated timepiece – it sits comfortably on the wrist. Notably, you can jump to the pool in this watch, thanks to its screw-locked crown and water resistance of 100 meters.

Movement

Inside is the self-winding Calibre 581, an ultra-thin movement measuring just 3 mm thick, and comprising 330 components. This thinness is made possible by the use of a peripheral rotor. The balance beats at a frequency of 4 Hertz and has a power reserve of 80 hours. To ensure it incorporates all the latest innovations, the calibre is fitted with a carriage in titanium and balance-spring in silicon. This material with multiple properties including resistance to both corrosion and wear, along with insensitivity to the influence of magnetic fields.

The Tourbillon Marine is available with a black rubber or brown alligator leather strap/rose gold bracelet for the rose gold model and with a midnight blue rubber or alligator leather strap/platinum bracelet for the platinum model. It’s a pity that Breguet didn’t introduce an easy-change strap solution for this watch. It would be really great if I could switch from the alligator strap to the rubber strap before the weekend starts and back to the leather strap on Monday.

The Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577 comes with a hefty price tag. The gold version is priced at €159,800, while the platinum variant carries a cost of €175,900. It’s a significant investment. However, if you can afford it, the satisfaction of owning a watch at this price point, which combines durability with an elegant design suitable for daily wear, is truly unparalleled.
