I can’t think of another brand that introduces more new watches than Cartier. During a meeting with Cartier at Watches and Wonders, they continuously bring new releases every few minutes throughout a 45-minute meeting—it’s incredible. Most of the novelties are creative, beautiful, and thoughtfully crafted. However, there are always one or two pieces that truly stand out. This year, the Cartier Privé Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph was undoubtedly one of them.

Cartier Prive Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph

The Cartier Privé Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph is part of Cartier’s Privé collection, a distinguished line of luxury watches that celebrates the brand’s rich heritage and craftsmanship. It features limited-edition timepieces that draw inspiration from iconic models in Cartier’s history, reinterpreting classic designs with modern innovations. The single-pusher chronograph was first introduced in 1928 within a Tortue model and was reissued in 1998 as part of the Cartier Privée Collection Paris.

It’s a fantastic piece, which is very well executed. On one hand, it retains all the elements of the original version, while on the other, it feels distinctly modern—mostly thanks to its size. Measuring 43.7mm in length and 34.8mm in width, the proportions feel just right for this watch. I’m glad Cartier didn’t opt for an XL version, as that would have, in my opinion, compromised the watch’s aesthetic.

The Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph is just 10.2 mm thick, which adds to its overall appeal, and is impressively slim for a chronograph. The watch is available in two options: platinum or yellow gold. The platinum version offers a more contemporary look, while the yellow gold exudes a certain vintage charm. Personally, I really prefer the yellow gold version.

Another standout feature of the new Tortue Monopoussoir lies beneath the dial. Cartier designed the new caliber 1928 MC specifically for this watch, in collaboration with an external partner, perfectly tailored to fit the shaped case. This manual-wind chronograph features a column wheel and offers a power reserve of 44 hours. At just 4.3 mm thick, it’s the slimmest chronograph movement ever produced by Cartier, and one of the thinnest on the market.

The movement’s finishing is of the highest quality, as one would expect at this price point, featuring beveled bridges and elegant curved Côtes de Genève.

Both are limited to 200 pieces. The platinum model is priced at €53,000, while the yellow gold version costs €46,000.
