IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled the Ingenieur Automatic 42 in black ceramic at Watches and Wonders 2025. This marks the first time the Gérald Genta-inspired Ingenieur design has been fully executed in ceramic. Details, live pictures, and prices below.

The 42mm case, bezel, and case back are all made from black zirconium oxide ceramic, a material known for its scratch resistance and light weight. The integrated ceramic bracelet connects seamlessly to the case, ensuring both comfort and durability. Water resistance is rated at 10 bar.

The case components are satin-finished and then treated with a smooth sand-blasting, with a delicate polishing around their edges. The bracelet links boast the same elaborate surface treatment with a combination of satin-finishing, sandblasting and polishing.

The black dial retains the Ingenieur’s signature “Grid” pattern, with black hands and metal markers filled with Super-LumiNova® for visibility in low light. The watch is powered by the IWC-manufactured 82110 calibre, featuring a Pellaton winding system with ceramic components for improved wear resistance. It offers a 60-hour power reserve and runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is visible through a tinted sapphire glass case back, maintaining the watch’s all-black aesthetic.

The price of the new IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42 in black ceramic is 20,000 CHF (including VAT).
