Introducing the Ressence Type 1 Round – an exciting revelation I got to witness at the Watches & Wonders event in early 2023. I was very happy to see Ressence bringing back the original shape of the Type 1, but with a fresh and refined twist.
They’ve put a lot of thought into redesigning the watch, tweaking many details to make it nearly perfect. As the owner of the first-generation Type 1, it’s especially interesting to follow the design evolution and understand the reasoning behind each change. Luckily, I had my Type 1 on my wrist that day, so I snapped some pictures to capture all the differences. Gotta say, my original Type 1 felt almost like a vintage piece compared to the new one.

A few years back, Ressence discontinued the classic Type 1, leaving only the oval-shaped version. I’ve always thought the oval one didn’t quite capture the true Ressence spirit. Surprisingly, during my chat with the Ressence team at W&W 2023, they shared the same sentiment. They realized the oval Type 1 didn’t fully represent what Ressence stands for, so they decided to bring back the round case, but in a more minimal and sophisticated way.

The new Type 1 Round is slimmer, with rounder corners, giving it a vibe reminiscent of the more expensive Type 3. It’s still made of titanium, and still without a crown. The Type 1 Round dial has been graphically simplified with indexes every 10 minutes and a weekday dial that subtly unites the 2 non-working days of the week with a touch of colour. The Second and Weekday hands are larger for an improved reading. The watch is available in two finishes – Black and Night Blue. The price for the Type 1 Round is CHF 16,800 (Tax excluded).

What I love about the Type 1, aside from its comfort on the wrist, is the tactile experience it provides. When you hold it, it’s not just a watch; it’s a celebration of modern, minimal design that’s simply captivating.
