Finally I found a perfect daily watch and it comes from the master Laurent Ferrier. Meet the Laurent Ferrier Classic Origin Blue in titanium.
At the beginning of 2022, Laurent Ferrier introduced a new model to the Classic Origin line. Honestly, I immediately fell in love with this watch and was looking forward to Watches and Wonders 2022 to see it live. For me, the Classic Origin Blue is the perfect watch for every day life, given the fact that my lifestyle during the work week is not too extreme. My personal formula for the perfect everyday watch consists from the following elements: modern, pure design but in a classical direction, reliable and lightweight material, top quality, plus it should be a small brand that is known only in narrow circles, and most likely will not attract the attention of bad guys, but connoisseurs will appreciate your choice. Previously, for me it was the F.P.Journe Chronometre Bleu, but in recent years there has been such a crazy hype to this watch, that the prices became absurdly high (for the same money you can buy a high complication Patek) and such big attention to the watch made it less attractive to me. I still love this watch and everything what F.P. Journe is doing, but I wish the interest to them would stay, as it was 8-10 years ago.
The Laurend Ferrrier Classic Origin Blue is made of Grade 5 titanium, diameter of the case is 40mm, the thickness is 10.70mm. The opaline dial presents a gradation of blues that transition from a lighter shade in the centre to deepest blue around the periphery. It features the emblematic ball-shaped crown whose gracious architecture is inspired by 19th-century pocket watches. Water resistant up to 30 meters. The watch is fitted with a midnight blue Nubuck strap with tone-on-tone Alcantara lining.
Inside of this watch is the in-house hand-wound Caliber LF116.01 with 80-h power reserve. The movement is equipped with a free-sprung balance and a Breguet overcoil. This latter combination enhances precision, mitigates positional errors and improves isochronism. The firm’s beloved long-blade ratchet system is another highlight of this movement. This system, emblematic of Laurent Ferrier, offers a very pleasant feeling when the watch is wound as well as an inimitable sound, characteristic of the most demanding timepieces.
While the Calibre LF116.01 may be more minimalist than some of the brand’s complication movements, it offers the same high-end finishes as every other Laurent Ferrier creation. The bridges are microbeaded, with black rhodium finish and entirely hand-polished edges. Each screw-head is mirror polished and the escapement bridge is adorned with a hand-made interior angle, reflecting the workshop’s meticulous attention to detail.
The Classic Origin Blue feels and sits perfectly on the wrist, it’s light, thanks to the titanium case, it has the right size and proportions. And just look at this amazing dial! I always liked LF watches and wanted to add one to my collection, but until 2022 I wasn’t exactly sure which model to go with. Now I have no doubts.
