For the first time, Patek Philippe is introducing the Aquanaut Travel Time 5164 in a white gold case. For further details, live photos, and prices, continue reading below.
Launched in 2011 as a steel model with black dial and strap 5164A, the Aquanaut Travel Time was reinterpreted in 2016 as a rose gold version with brown dial and strap 5164R. After 13 years on the market, the Aquanaut Travel Time in stainless steel was discontinued and replaced with the white gold version featuring a blue-gray opaline dial, the 5164G.
I had the opportunity to see the new Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G in person at Watches & Wonders 2024, and I really like the new color. While there is no real sense to have this type of watch in white gold, from a commercial standpoint, it’s quite appealing, and the trend of combining gold and rubber in sportier watches seems to be here to stay.
Inside is the same self-winding calibre 26-330 S C FUS, that is distinguished by its patented dual-time display system, which combines excellent legibility with user-friendliness. Simply pressing one of the two pushers on the left- hand side of the case is enough to move the solid local time hand forwards (lower pusher) or backwards (upper pusher) in one-hour increments, with no loss of accuracy. Meanwhile, the skeletonized hand keeps track of home time. Both time zones feature day/night indicators (through apertures at 9 and 3 o’clock). When the wearer is not traveling, the two perfectly superimposed hours hands become one.
The date indication by hand on a subdial at 6 o’clock is coupled with the local time and therefore adjusts forwards or backwards, as required, when the Travel Time pushers are activated.
The case of the new model remains unchanged, measuring 40.8 mm in diameter, with an octagonal bezel enhanced by contrasting polished and satin-brushed finishes. The white gold case is paired with a blue-gray opaline dial embossed with the Aquanaut pattern. This shade of blue is certainly a big trend this year among many brands. The watch is complemented by an integrated Aquanaut-patterned composite strap in a matching blue-gray color, featuring a patented white gold fold-over clasp.
The new white gold Aquanaut Travel Time, Reference 5164G-001, joins the existing 5164R-001 in rose gold, while the 5164A-001 in steel is exiting the collection. The price of the new Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G is €62,000 (including tax).
