At Watches & Wonders 2024, Patek Philippe introduced the Nautilus Chronograph 5980 in a new white gold version with an opaline blue-gray dial. For further details, live photos, and prices, continue reading below.

This year, Patek is all about white metals, opaline blue-gray, and denim. You’ve already seen the new World Time Date 5330G or the Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G, and now we have one more to show: the well-known self-winding flyback chronograph in a very casual and understated setup, yet still quite luxurious, thanks to the white gold case.

The watch features a white gold case with a diameter of 40.5 mm and a thickness of 12.2 mm, along with a screw-down crown. It offers water-resistance up to 30 meters. The bezel has been slimmed down on this new model to enable a wider dial opening. The shape of the case and bezel is accentuated by the play on contrasting polished and satin finishes.

Through the sapphire crystal case back, you can admire the self-winding flyback chronograph Caliber CH 28-520 C/522 with column wheel and vertical disk clutch, which is comprised of 327 parts. It boasts a power reserve ranging between 45 and 55 hours.
The chronograph indications are grouped in an original and legible man- ner on a large monocounter at 6 o’clock, on three concentric scales displaying (from outside to inside) the minutes from 1 to 30, minutes from 30 to 60 and hours from 1 to 12. As the vertical clutch avoids almost all wear, the chronograph’s central seconds hand can also be used as a running seconds display. The flyback function enables a new timekeeping operation to be started instantly while the chrono- graph is running, simply by pressing the 4 o’clock pusher. The date is displayed through an aperture with a white gold frame at 3 o’clock, changing instantly in less than a tenth of a second.

The feedback I’ve already heard and read indicates that the denim strap isn’t everyone’s preference. Fortunately, Patek offers the new Nautilus Chronograph with two straps: one in blue-gray calfskin with a denim pattern and white stitching, and another in blue-gray composite material with a fabric pattern and white stitching.

The new Reference 5980/60G-001 replaces References 5980R-001, 5980/1R-001 and 5980/1AR-001. The price of the Nautilus Chronograph in white gold 5980/60G is €77,640 (including tax).
